What a wonderful place La Perdrix is. It's hard to decide what impressed me the most. The beautiful old buildings, the peace and tranquility, the location or the fabulous food.
There's something very special going on here that you immediately feel part of.
Johnny is a great host, supplying a never ending stream of beautifully cooked food and entertaining everyone with ease.
My favourite evenings were those spent lingering over meals on the patio, with the wine flowing amidst much talking and laughter until the stars were twinkling in the night sky.
Simply magical - I can't wait to return.

Once again I visited La Perdrix and left without adding a few words to the visitor's book.
My visit in June was to paint the landscape with some 13 years more experience and I returned having been invited to exhibit in the first La Perdrix exhibition. The Vernissage or Preview went very well with over 80 people attending which created a great atmosphere. Most of the exhibitors were experienced artists that was apparent in the quality of their work. It also offered a good mix of Welsh and local Dordogne talent with an array of mediums, styles and interest. Thanks to Johnny who worked hard to transform the barn into a gallery and all those who helped to make the event a success.
After the Vernissage I painted for 3 days and produced many studies, but more abstract than in June. I was happy with the work being more tonal and looked for the basic shapes that were mainly triangular. September is a great time to visit for a painter as the final crops are being harvested offering strong tones, rich colours and dynamic forms. My week came to an end though I spent a further 3 days in Bordeaux learning more about the city and wine production.

On my last day at La Perdrix I forgot to comment in the visitor's book, so though I could place something on the website.
I am a painter of many years experience, though have to work full time, and so rely on annual leave to paint; usually in France. In 1991 I found the Painting School of Montmiral where I went for two-week sessions over 3 years. Then I came across La Perdrix when Jan Skellett owned it and I must have visited eight times. In 2007, I returned to the Painting School of Montmiral and continued until this year.
Now Johnny owns La Perdrix and it has been 13 years since my last visit. Thanks to his catering skills, good conversation and hospitality, La Perdrix was a very enjoyable and productive week allowing five days of painting, with Friday to see the market and do some shopping. I would never have achieved the same development, or amount of work anywhere else over a fortnight. Now I have to produce paintings from the studies. Many thanks.
Outstanding holiday, great company, magnificent scenery and plenty of craic, an artist's paradise. Cant wait to return next year.
Amazing! Thank you all so much for making it such a great holiday! Cant wait to come back again next year!
